About the Dillon Ice Melt

Each year since 1985, the Summit County Rotary Club has anticipated the spring thaw on Lake Dillon, by placing a device on the ice, which has the uncanny ability to know precisely when it gets wet. Proceeds from this event are put to good use when the Rotary Club grants scholarships to deserving Summit County students.

The Clock Has Fallen!
Thursday, 03 May 2007

Last Year in 2009 the clock fell in on May 5th and it has been retrieved. The exact moment was 17:18:20.

Previously in 2007: Our 2007 1st place ($2000) winner is Margie Prim from Dillon whose guess was just 46 seconds off. Second place ($500) was taken by Breckenridge's Kate Hudnut who was 9 minutes 52 seconds off and 3rd place ($250) was secured by Mike Miscisin also of Breckenridge. Mike was 19 minutes 46 seconds away from the actual time and he donated his winnings back to The Rotary Club. Yay Mike!

4th through 10th places win some BBQ Bucks to spend atThe 9NEWS BBQ at the Summit in August. Those winners are:

  • Kristin Yankowski, Breckenridge 20 minutes 6 seconds off (yes that is our Ice Princess)
  • Jeaniene Whitman, Dillon 24 minutes, 29 seconds off
  • Sue Travis, Iowa City, IA 25 minutes, 14 seconds off
  • Alan Hencroth, Dillon 28 minutes, 29 seconds off
  • C. Zappia, Dillon 30 minutes, 31 seconds off
  • Jim Jensen, Silverthorne 31 minutes, 25 seconds
  • Andrea Rhodes, Boulder 47 minutes, 11 seconds off

Congratulations to all of our winners and thank you to all who bought Ice Melt tickets. The Rotary Club of Summit County will put the money raised to good use serving our community.
